i come from a Celtic background that is central to my identity.
i have a personal belief that to know the culture and mythology of the land i am living on is essential to forming a relationship with that land and the spirits of that land.
When i moved to Sweden some 10 years ago, informing myself of the Norse culture and mythology was significant to being in harmony with my new home and spirits. Both the spirits and ancestors of the land and my own spirit guides and ancestors that travel with me.
Do i regard myself as a Norse pagan? No, i have neither the ancestry or the cultural ties after only 10 years here, as my Celtic culture is constantly informed by the land that i now call home.
i make this distinction, not to distance myself but to identify myself as a pagan that is now constantly learning and informing myself of the culture and traditions of the land i am now on. So am i interested in all the culture and mythology of this land, absolutely but that alone cannot make me a Norse pagan.
As a final thought from a newcomer, Norse culture and mythology although popularised probably more than any other c & m by Hollywood and other modern interpretations has been misrepresented in equal measure. i would be interested by those that are and have studied Norse Paganism how they view this juxtaposition, helpful or otherwise?
