Rebecca and Naomi of Moon Goddess Garden are more than artisans—they are storytellers, spiritual practitioners, and guardians of ancient traditions.

Rooted in the mystical landscapes of Mercia's ancient forests, these sisters have spent 17 remarkable years crafting magical items that transcend mere objects, becoming conduits of cultural heritage and personal connection.

Their journey began with a simple quest: to create the pagan artifacts they couldn't find elsewhere. What emerged was a profound exploration of spirituality, creativity, and human connection—a testament to the power of craftsmanship that honors both personal roots and universal experiences.

In this conversation, they reveal the intricate tapestry of inspiration, belief, and passion that drives their unique artistic vision, inviting us into a world where every handcrafted piece tells a story of reverence, healing, and transformative magic.

What historical or cultural traditions inspire your work, and how do they influence your creative process?

We are inspired by a wide variety of traditions and cultures, Norse, English and Northern European folklore especially. Our Ancestors are all from Northern Europe so this seems more natural to us, but we are also drawn to Native American, Asian and Egyptian beliefs. We never stop learning and experiencing other cultures and traditions and including them into our daily lives and work.

How do your values and beliefs shape the pieces you create?

Our belief is simply that the love and energy that you put into both work and life is returned to you threefold (as in the Wiccan Rede). We aim to make the best artwork that we can at affordable prices that our customers can enjoy for years to come. Customer satisfaction means a great deal to us and we want our customers to feel the time, care and passion that we put into our craft.

What are some common misconceptions about your craft, and how do you address them?

‘Do you worship the devil?’
This is a common misconception as there is no devil in Paganism. It is primarily a Nature based religion where you do not harm people or animals. There is no rule book or rights and wrongs just a respect for Mother Earth, nature, people, animals and the environment around you. It is not a structured religion as it has no leaders, with no one in charge people tend find their own unique paths. It is an ever growing movement with no hard sell, advertising or recruitment needed. We would like to say that the people that we have encountered over the last 17 years at Moon Goddess Garden are some of the nicest you could wish for!

What do you hope to leave behind as your legacy through your craftsmanship?

It is our hope that some of our handcrafted magical items will be treasured not only by this generation but future generations to come, with the magic enduring through many Rituals, Celebrations and Blessings becoming a tradition in themselves.

What advice would you give someone seeking a career in your field?

There are many pros and cons to being a craftsperson. On the plus side you will get a great sense of achievement, have more freedom and it can be both therapeutic and cathartic. The downside is that it takes a lot of time and hard work, it can be quite stressful with ups and downs and you will need to be self reliant. But if you can endure the hard times you will be able to do what you love everyday!

How has your craft helped you grow personally or professionally over the years?

It has given us both a sense of belonging and confidence where it was lacking and a realization that things get easier with time. Crafting can be an immensely relaxing and healing process which has helped us both in times of emotional need.

Info about us:

After finding it difficult to find hand crafted pagan items we found ourselves making our own and Moon Goddess Garden was born. We are a small family business with just myself Rebecca and my sister Naomi who have been lucky enough to grow up in the heart of England surrounded by the ancient forests of Mercia. This naturally led us to crafting with wood and slowly expanded our skill set to all forms of pagan artistry and we are still learning after 17 joyful years!
