Is it Native American inspired? Most people ask when they see the feather jewelry.

I often collaborate with our winged messengers-the Birds in my spiritual work.

Raised on an island where nature and its elements of course influenced me and who I am today.

Where there was no running water. You went down to the sea to wash the potatoes or get water for the sauna and your own showering.

Where the southwest winds whipped the stone slab while my father heated the womb - The legend of the birth of the sauna from another time. There on the stone in the middle of the little bay the birds came every year at the same time to lay their eggs and hatched.
Where fires were lit, darkness fell over the bay where the mother hatched during her own sleep.

The sea birds as well as the ducks on their shores were a natural element of my childhood. Sometimes they left gifts for one, their feathers in the reeds for a little girl to marvel at the gift.

I myself have the Seagull family as totems. Feathers of our messengers have also been used in our own ancient nordic history, not only by natives from the USA and South and Central America.

Some Russian Sami use them in their spiritual work, where a bear's pouch can be seen used in a drum.

Feathers adorn sejd staves, the sacred staff that many energy workers used by medicine men and women in their work.

Some traditional Asian textile works carry peacock-shimmering wings in their threads, just to name a few traditions from the past. Indigenous raincoats were woven from feathers. Mattresses have been made into our own down jackets or sleeping bags.

A feather or a wing channels the air and atmosphere. You clean auras with them, the aura of a person or an animal. You cleanse a place with them. In spiritual work, birds are asked about the messages between the worlds. Mediators between the realm of the dead as the breathing space of our own time.

Personally, I think they are so beautiful. Many people believe that a feather is fragile, that they break easily. How many birds do we see daily that are thinly dressed in their plumage?

I use them in earrings and necklaces. If you take good care of them, they will not break..

Since I started making jewelry at the age of twelve, I have not made two identical ones. I reason based on the unique existence of each person whose energy resonates in variables, therefore you cannot wear the same piece of jewelry divided into two.

All jewelry is made with a purpose for the wearer, which is why I give key words to my creations. Stones and crystals, colors or symbolism together with the feathers build a whole for you!

Your energy sometimes needs to be replenished or protect your own sphere if you are receptive to the energies of the environment. I make jewelry for its purposes with inspiration from our own but also other cultures' ancient history through times that have passed for us to live their medical tradition we have often forgotten. // Ulrika Fagernäs
